Interpretation of quote

Referring to the quote

“Employers identify communication as one of the basic competencies every

graduate should have, asserting that the ability to communicate is valuable for

obtaining employment and maintaining successful job performance.”

Sherwyn Morreale, Michael Osborn & Judy Pearson,

Professors of Communication (2000)

I believe that communication skills are very important as not only is it used in the workplace, it is used everywhere in our daily lives. Be it verbally or visually, maintaining eye contact, body language and speaking clearly with the right tone and pitch are just some examples of communication.

Being able to communicate with others proficiently and efficiently is a skillset that employers are looking for as it is very likely that one is required to work with colleagues or clients and possessing communication skills will allow one to convey the information accurately with clarity as intended.

Without proper communication between 2 parties, misunderstandings could arise which could lead to conflicts and sour relationships. Therefore, it is important to demonstrate good communication skills to improve the chances of getting a job and to work well together with colleagues to achieve a goal.

  1. I agree with what you wrote. I feel that without proper communication, the message will not be able to get across to the other party properly. And with proper communication, the message will be clear and other people would be able to understand it easily

  2. I agree with your statements. I believe that how one communicates sets an impression on oneself - be it from how we talk or body language. With good communication skills, employers will be more interested in the employees or interviewees, hence chances of getting the job increased too.
